Cool Crowds and Rushing: Various

Still lots of TV, very little time (especially since the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live's been ruling a bunch of my time lately... that and work).

Bionic Woman: The Education of Jamie Sommers:
Yes, I was going to give up, but I won't just yet. NBC is trying its darndest to make this show work. They've recruited Friday Night Lights writers... recruited one of the producers of the Sopranos.. they're trying, so there's potential. Still, there's a glaring shortcoming in the form of the lead, yet she became infinitely more interesting just by letting her be her. Michelle Ryan's British. In this episode, she played a British college student. Just by having her speak in her natural accent, she just became more interesting. Maybe, being able to not worry about pronunciation and just focusing on inflection is freeing her acting chops. Too bad they can't just write in that they phased her brain to speak only in a British accent. Who cares what the little sister and friends say?

Gossip Girl: uh.. the masquerade party episode:
Still one of the treats of the week.

Supernatural: Catching up...
Episode 2 of the season was really good. In the middle of episode 3. Seems like I enjoy their one shots more than their overarching ones.

Dirty Sexy Money: the twins' parties..
I concede that I have a little crush on Samaire Armstrong. I mean, I have since the OC Season 1. But that's not why I like this show. It's very soap operatic in nature, but it's also an hour long situational comedy and it delivers very well on a simultaneously sincere and satirical level. If you write this show off before watching it and getting the satire, then you're not being fair to the show or yourself (because it really is entertaining).

Moonlight: I didn't watch last week's but I'm officially not interested..
'nuff said?

Scrubs: Season Premiere..
Toned down daydreams? What did that get us? Just another great Scrubs episode. They came out firing with a bunch of smarter, more keen, jokes and it was so enjoyable. A definite bounce back from some of the less in-stride episodes from last year.

Beauty and the Geek..
With Erin now gone, the only Beauty left who seems like an actually decent person is gone. Of course, tv will lie, but Erin seemed liked a throwback to season 2 when the girls seemed like they were actually trying to better themselves not just win the game. Sucks.

Nothing quite introspective this week - except maybe for hoping that Michelle Ryan can be herself in Bionic Woman.

Rush Week: Chuck

A super-softball weekend gave me a chance to 1) get the exercise I've been avoiding all week, 2) be around some hot girls who I don't know, and 3) catch up on my "tivoed" TV.

One of the shows I was really excited about as the Fall Season was approaching was Chuck. I'm all for oddball, quirky, nerd-ruling, hot-chicks in spy gear, type of TV programming (if done well, of course) so I fell into the hype that NBC was pushing into this new show. Unfortunately, as previous posts have shown, jumping into this show was harder due to my over-impacted TV schedule (mainly conflicting schedules of How I Met Your Mother and The War kept Chuck out in the first 2 weeks).

So my thoughts on Episode 3 and 4? Chuck's good, but not great. I could live without it being on my schedule, but I also wouldn't mind keeping it on. It has a charm because it's not too heavy, but then again, some of the action sequences seemed a little to V.I.P. (see Pamela Anderson) for me. I mean, it's cool seeing overly-hot spy chicks doing kick-a-palooza, but it can get old. Yes. It's true. It's true.

I think it's sorta ironic.. or maybe telling (of what, I don't know) that I had just finished watching Episode 3 or 4 of Reaper when Sam, well-intentioned loafer in Reaper mythos, was offered the Assistant Manager job at his equally go-nowhere employment establishment (a hardware store) when I saw Episode 3 of Chuck and he was just offered the same position at his Electronics store.

Both are too old to work there. Both are heading nowhere, although Chuck's exile from college had less to do with his ambition than Sam's. Both have their posse of ne'er-do-wells. Both have crushes on their immediate co-workers: Sam has Andy while Chuck has Sarah. Both are stuck in situations where they have been betrothed to save the world: Sam to the Devil (by way of his parents' deal with El Diablo) and Chuck to the NSA (by way of his ex-college roommate's uh.. computer programmatic indiscretions).

Where they differ the most, I suppose, is the development of the supporting cast. It's obvious that Chuck is driven more by his relationship with Sarah and there in a distant second is his relationship with his sister. In Reaper, Sam's buddies, Sock and "Spanish" (from Old School) maintain a first-billing status as well as the Devil, who, in that 3rd Episode, showed himself to be a caring and father-figure type to Sam. The gags in Reaper have also been more fun than in Chuck's. I guess due to the subject matter, Reaper has to be much more humor based than Chuck. Reaper is a full-hour comedy with dramatic elements. Chuck is showing itself to be much more of a drama with action and comedic elements.

I can fully include Chuck in my viewing schedule without losing much time. Chuck doesn't go too deeply that I can doze off (aka browse the net or chat or dust my room or miss an episode or two) and not really miss anything. Whereas, a show like Bionic Woman or Journeyman, because it takes itself much more seriously, had intricacies that you can't miss in terms of the plot (but things you can totally miss due to not caring anymore).

I'll be checking out Journeyman and Bionic Woman for ONE MORE WEEK. Then, it's kaput. When do the axes officially drop anyway?

OTHER DVR TIDBITS:

I'm not so hot on The Office's 1 hour episodes. They're quite obviously 2 stand-alone episodes pieced together by eliminating one set of end and beginning credits. I've missed most of the first two episodes - I think with some tivo or sleeping issues. The third episode of the season, "The Launch Party", was pretty good throughout, though probably better in two episodes in two weeks. Part 1: Dwight vs The Website was funny throughout. Part 2: The actual Launch Party was good also. Last week's "Money" episode was funny as well though I think Launch Party had more kicks.

As I discussed a bit in the Chuck review, I've also been catching up to Reaper. The gags have still not been as prominent as the pilot, but episode 3 (with the bugs) seemed to be better than the second episode. Again, I loved seeing the battle armor/uniform that Sam, Sock, and Ben concocted. Each week, depending on the lost soul, they come up with specific suits. I think the best part of the week was the emerging relationship Sam has with the devil. I also like how Ben's relevance is blossoming other than being the third wheel to Sam and Sock.

I saw the first episode of the Sarah Silverman Program of Season 2. She's off the hook. It was disturbing as anything you'll get from her, and it was totally funny. All the stiff acting in this show is almost worth every episode. "I'd still be totally gay for you even if you were a level one priest" or something like that. It made sense in the episode. So bad. But, that's Sarah Silverman's comedy. It's really hard to be in the middle with her. You'll love her for all the cringe-inducing moments or you'll obviously hate her for being a devil spawn. She definitely fits in the "is she saying this to question society or is she saying this just cuz she's really that fucked up in the head and doesn't care if it pisses you off or not". Who knows?

What else...?

Cool Crowd and Rushing: Week 3 and Parts of 4

I already forgot a lot about last week.. I'm still behind on Supernatural and Reaper and Chuck.

Smallville (Fierce) was a fun little ode to earlier seasons. Maybe Smallville, the town, is getting its last hurrah before the darkness and convolutions start? Still not all that into Supergirl, the character or the actress, but it'll get somewhere. Who's gonna die soon? Maybe both the Talon and the Kent Farm? The Kent Farm's a backdrop now, anyway. I don't think getting rid of any of the longstanding cast is all that needed.

Pushing Daisies (Still Dandy, No Lyin') was another bag of goodies. The "Hopelessly Devoted" piece was a bit much, but no complaints. It's cool that they're using Kristin Chenowith's singing chops. Don't ever watch this show if you're too sleepy. You'd miss all the subtleties and think it was a bad episode. That's what happened for me and then I watched it over again and found it still so grandly charming.

What else was on last week?

It's all a blur already.

Heroes: Kindred was good except for the rehashing of Hiro's adventures. Since Hiro was gone this week, we might as well should've had that rehash next week. Yay, my girlfriend Kristen's making her premiere next week. Sylar's going to be needed to take down the Nightmare Man aka Weis/Matt's dad. Contrary to what many other people may have said, I thought the TV power was stupid. But then, it makes sense in a way since it was Micah's cousin. They're both related to electronic/mechanical powers. Obviously Auntie/Grandma is also: "You should watch more educational shows". Uh huh. She's a cyborg. "The humans are dead" - Germaine and Bret

Tasting Curb: The casualities of Fall 07

Alright. There's an interesting equation here that I am working with:

HOURS NOT AT WORK
{DIVIDED BY}

THE TOTAL SUM OF:
([New Xbox360][Xbox Live]) + [Exercise time/Psuedo-social life])

ALL DIVIDED BY (is this a summation):
(Ongoing shows)+ (new shows added) + (badness of the new shows substracted) + (warriors season approaching)

ALL EQUALS:

Journeyman's getting the boot.
Bionic Woman's getting the boot.
Gossip Girl and Pushing Daisies are running full speed ahead.
Kid Nation and Beauty and the Geek are still solid variables.
Moonlight will be watched whenever I feel like it, but I'm not overly concerned about it.
Big Bang Theory is really bad.
Reaper (ouch) may get the ax if episodes 3 and 4 don't get better.
Dirty Sexy Money jumped ahead of the aforementioned booted.

I still have lots of TV to watch, but I'm done with Journeyman and Bionic Woman. I don't care about Dan or any of his one-and-done counterparts (still love Livia in HD, though). I am done with the super bland, running very fast in it's own doodoo (not the good kind), Jamie Sommers and gang. If I have to have that 44 minutes go to something out of the schedule, I'd rather bust out Alias Season 1.

By the by, spoiler alert, we found out this week that Jamie's shelf-life is 5 years as is most technology. Nice point. Actually, in the real world though, Jamie's shelf life is 5 episodes. OH SNAP (yes, you're supposed to be picturing Tina Fey). Oh, I love 30 Rock but I still miss Tina on SNL.

So what's it looking like?
Mon: How I Met Your Mother, Heroes
Tues: Beauty and the Geek, Bones, Reaper
Wed: Ghost Hunters, South Park, Sarah Silverman Program, Kid Nation, Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, Dirty Sexy Money (and LOST.... shiet)
Thurs: It's Always Sunny.., Smallville, 30 Rock, Supernatural, Scrubs, and The Office
Fri: Moonlight.. sorta.
Sat: still nothing
Sun: Robot Chicken, Battlestar Galactica

Okay, okay. I'll just take Moonlight off.

Getting better.

Cool Crowd Line-up

It's week 3 (week 4 for some) and we're past rush for most of the shows. The other shows? Well, I'm figuring I should just stop watching them because of their impending cancellation doom:

Journeyman
Moonlight (sorta)

AND I'm still trying out:
Big Bang Theory (sitcom)
Dirty Sexy Money
Bionic Woman
Reaper
Life
Chuck
Friday Night Lights (on DVD) - I bought Season 1 since it was only $14.99 at Best Buy. I'll pick up season 2 next summer or maybe when the reruns hit in a few weeks to give my chance to catch up.

That means I'm adding:

Gossip Girl
Pushing Daisies

So, if that's the case, here's my Cool Crowd lineup:

SUNDAY: BSG
MONDAY: (Chuck), Heroes
TUESDAY: Bones, (Reaper)
WEDNESDAY: Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, Lost
THURSDAY: Smallville, Supernatural
FRIDAY: respite

But the sitcoms still fill a lot of the time:
How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, Scrubs, The Office

When the second half of the season starts, we're going to be introduced to:

Eli Stone
Sarah Conner Chronicles

That's really way too much TV.

I lost VMars last year, and I'm officially adding two shows - possibly 4.
Damn.

It's fun. But that's still a lot.

Cool Rush: Pushing Daisies, Pie-lette

Alright. Like I said. Here's the Ode.

This show's getting a lot of hype, rave reviews, and a lot of backlash for being to cute. I don't know about the people who are so so with the cutesy, but there's too much agly in the world, as Jean Claude says, that I don't mind having 44 minutes a week for sweet fantasy. No, not like that perves.

Okay, so my gut reaction while watching was to relate it back to Big Fish. The visual treats and the dreaming of the film was really what I needed at the time when I watched it, and I think Pushing Daisies' playfulness with both visual treats and unapologetic saccharine is what I've been needing lately as well. The narration was over the top and I found myself much more amused because I felt the intention. It was playing with words in a poetic redundancy.

Adult Ned immediately jumps out as a substantial lead. A stark contrast to the blandness that Jamie Sommers is on Bionic Woman. Chi McBride, a favorite from past failed shows and non-exhilarating minor movie roles, plays Ned's private investigator partner/friend/and occasional antagonist (depending on where they are currently in their investigations). Ned's first and only real love, Chuck, comes back to his life as he brings her back to hers. Ned has a strange power of reviving dead people, but it has grave side effects, mystically and emotionally. Ned saves Chuck's life, in sorts, but he can't touch her because she'll re-die. By saving her, and I mean by keeping her alive for more than one minute, he ends up killing a shady mortician. Value judgments aside, we want this to happen.

The show is obviously strange. It is rooted in fantasy. When was the last time fantasy was done this whimsically on television? The show, at least from the pilot, does not take itself too seriously. The rules are established with obvious shortcomings. A dog that never touches his best human friend? Unlikely. But then again, this dude has the power of life and death hidden in touch. Why bother with the irrelevant? The fantasy is fun. The quirk is fun. But, what is taken very seriously is the character development. At its initial launch, we care immediately for the main players. We understand all of their initial wants. Unlike Journeyman or Bionic Woman where the subject matter is delivered in much more monotonous and serious tones, Pushing Daisies has fun with its magic, has already set the rules, and has already made us care.

Visually, this show is AMAZING. This show was born with the intent of being celebrated on High Definition. The colors are fabulous. I haven't even thought that deeply of the show, though it's obvious that it has layers from its relationship to life to its symbolism. There is definitely a darker side to the show that they will unearth. I'm excited to see and feel it all happen.

I just don't know how ABC is going to transition from Pushing Daisies to LOST in one night.

Cool Crowing and Rushing: Week 2

Just some quick rundowns of Week 2 offerings from the Cools and the Rushers.

MONDAY
Journeyman: Friendly Skies

Ep. 2 took a better step than the pilot did, though I'm still not completely sold on this show. The people Dan are helping aren't all that interesting to me, and eventually the "generational cameos" will get old. Next week's episode is focused on the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. Not sure if I ever need to relive that myself, but it'll be interesting. I still don't like that there aren't any rules yet, though cell phones are close to being part of it. Maybe Dan and Livia are caught in some residual cellular waves that they use to cross the space time continuum. Maybe it's the old phone since that, at the moment, is all that they both share. I wish this was on at 8pm instead of Chuck because I'd immediately drop this from my list - though I'd definitely miss Moon Bloodgood in HD. I'll never get tired of that.

TUESDAY
Reaper: Charged

What did I say last week about concerns about the show's ability to keep up with its pilot's fever pitch? What we got in week 2 was a much more underwhelming show and it may be what we have to expect, but hopefully it'll be just a notch better. It's unbelievable to expect quality of their pilot's level, but this week's story was much more bland or maybe somewhat forced. Last week's gags were great and naturally laugh-inducing. This week's left you wanting more. Sock can't go as fast as he did because it would get old like Michael Cera's character in Superbad. Let's categorize this episode as homeostasis and to expect gradually bettering episodes.

WEDNESDAY
Pushing Daisies: Pie-lette

It's almost a shame to only give a quick hit on Pushing Daisies. You know what? It is. This baby gets its own! Coming up soon.

Gossip Girl: Poison Ivy

This will be short. As I stated in my Gossip Girl rundown earlier, I was partly through the first quarter of this episode when I realized that I was still on the fence. After Poison Ivy, I've definitely landed on board! It's still not overwhelming, but this show is very fun in its evil, its satire, and its heart. Acting can improve, but this episode wraps up the first larger arc of the show. Dawson's Creek ran with a three episode cycle of arcs and this may follow suit. I can't remember if The OC did the same.

All I know is that soap opera writing has a cycling structure for their plots. There are, say, 4 ongoing plots. Plot A would be the most immediate and Plot D would be the furthest down the line that is building. Once Plot A is done, Plot B moves up to be Plot A and a new Plot D is created. Get it?

Plot A (done): Serena re-settles in the UpEast
Plot B: Serena and Dan getting to know each other
Plot C: Blair.. something to do with Blair outside of Serena (maybe establishing a relationship with Jenny)
Plot D: Serena's family has to deal with brother's suicide attempt
Plot E: Nate vs his father

That said, it seems like these are the main conflicts
Conflict A: Serena vs Blair
Conflict B: Serena and Dan's (potential) relationship
Conflict C: Jenny establishing a foothold in the world of the UpEast
Conflict D: The kids and their parents
Conflict E: The parents' relationships

THURSDAY
30 Rock: Seinfeld Vision

I don't normally include the sitcoms in this, but since 30 Rock had a lot of expectations to live up to after winning an Emmy, I felt it appropriate to celebrate their triumphant return. They slammed a whole mess of jokes within that first segment. Wonderful. I'm watching the Season 1 DVDs and it's been so fun. Seinfeld was a lot of fun, but it was really the *worst* (I use that term loosely) part of the episode!

Smallville: Kara

I actually don't remember much of this episode except for the the first real contact between Kara and (adult) Clark, Lois landing an everyday gig at the Planet, Lex finding Lana, Lana explaining the clone story (and putting a cap to the experiments that Lex was conducting with Lana's DNA last year), and a level of closure to the Lexana situation so that Lex can go about his search for Kara and Lana can return to Clark. Okay, I actually remembered a lot. I liked the episode. It was a standard Smallville episode, though I'll be happy to get back to a more focused soap. =) I totally forgot that Martha's in Washington DC. That means the Kent House is officially all Green Screened now. I guess Clark's officially moving to Metropolis. Bring back Ollie.

Supernatural: The Magnificent Seven

This was probably my second most enjoyed Season Premiere of the Cool Crowd (again, not counting sitcoms). I really liked the Heroes premiere and obviously I liked the Pushing Daisies premiere (but it's still a Rush Week entry even though it is immediately part of the Cool Crowd as of yesterday). Anyway, Dean's coming out blasting this season. He has one year to live - he can't reverse it. He's not giving an eff and kicking evil tail with more irreverent zest as ever. Special props to the "What's in the box" allusion to Seven. I knew I wasn't the only one that has a knew jerk reaction to boxes and ask that in the vein of Brad and poor Gwyneth.

I think the blond girl's an angel. Did I read that somewhere? Her stabs being so mystical made me think such. Has there been an angel in Supernatural mythos yet? I've forgotten.

Rush Week: Bionic Woman

Bionic Woman: Paradise Lost

The show picks up in episode two. It definitely wasn't as bland as last week's episode. Like another blog I read, these crazy ass changes just seem to be accepted way to nonchalantly by our Jaime Sommers. New eye, new arm, new ear, new legs? Oh. No. Oh. Kay? That's it. Our lead does better than last week. The overarching doom being presented by the other clandestine baddies is more fun, but none of the characters jump out yet except for Isaiah Washington's new character and Sarah Corvus (Starbuck/Katee Sackhoff).

Not good for a show this highly hyped. I have faith it'll pick up. Heroes was pretty underwhelming for the first 8-12 episodes. Maybe they have growing pains.

Episode story: good
Character building: average
Long term plot implications: decent

Rush Week: Gossip Girl

Been watching Gossip Girl for the first two weeks and haven't been blown away or completely turned off yet. Actually, I was watching some of Ep. 3 this morning while I was eating my breakfast and laughed a bit at the last scene I saw: Blair getting her "hurt" leg nursed by her cronies. Why it was funny? The cronies are so clueless. It's quite satirical. Oh, the leg's not really hurt. Anyway, there are subtleties and then there's Chuck Bass who got quite skewered.. or actually if he was alive probably would've been honored.. by Best Week Ever for obviously aiming towards one thing. He's an unapologetic lothario (though that may be redundant) but is far from endearing. We know he's the bad guy and we're meant to not like him. Cool.

Serena's the main girl. Rich but changed. Atoning for past mistakes. Serena took a very conspicuous sabbatical from the UpEast and just recently came back. She came back in time to meet Dan and also get outed for doing the dirty with her ex-BFF's boyfriend, Nate Archibald. Nate, btw, has a badass UpEast name.

Dan's the main dude. Poor boy with the rich kids. Being that his TV life was born from Josh Schwartz, he's definitely a rib of Ryan Atwood (from the OC). Rib as in Adam, not rib as in joke. He's already punched Chuck once and pushed him. He's been kicked out of a rich people's only party (The Brunch). I'm not sure what the over/under is on him getting beat down by one of the rich kids and them yelling out: "Welcome to the Upper East Side, BITCH!" It doesn't ring melodic as "welcome to the OC, bitch". What about, "Welcome to 6 Train, Bitch!" I dunno. But, it'll be great when I see it. Anyway, Dan is the teen soap staple: outcast invades a strange world. See: Ryan Atwood, Brandon and Brenda Walsh (90210), Jen Lindley (Dawson's Creek), Lucas (One Tree Hill), AC Slater (Saved by the Bell). Dan's going to get in a bunch of fights isn't he?

Blair is Serena's ex-BFF.

(By the way, the best prize of this show? As I'm writing down the characters' names and their quick first-line quips, I'm hearing Kristen Bell aka Gossip Girl's voice. It makes it all worth it. I wanna move to Neptune. Frame Piz for an indiscretion - he's a tool and he's now a doctor in Seattle [Private Practice, ABC, Wed, 9pm]. And, somehow, get Logan to die in a surfing accident - though, we all must know by now that he doesn't really die - but just moves north to LA and becomes an OG - Original Goth.. vampire [Moonlight, CBS, Fri, 9pm]).

Oh yes. Blair. Blair is Serena's ex-BFF because of two main reasons: 1) the aforementioned dirtydirty with Nate Dogg and 2) while Serena was away Blair became the top dog. Before she even knew about the affair, Blair made it obvious that she was not all that ecstatic when Serena returned. So, now, Blair and Serena are at odds. Yay.

Nate Archibald hasn't gone far yet. A bit more about him was unwrapped early in episode 3. He has extreme pressure from his parents about going to Dartmouth. All these kids are Ivy League legacies except for Dan and his sister. Nate wants to go to USC. Right now, it seems like Nate and Dan are headed towards a friendship. Their differences seem like typical TV-fodder for pairing.

Jenny is Dan's younger sister. She's being recruited towards the dark side by Blair. Blair's mom is a fashion designer and she gave Jenny a dress for free. Jenny has also been almost date-raped by Chuck. That's why Dan punched him. She's just a pawn right now - in terms of plot.

There are parents and they have their own issues. Like Sandy in the OC, Dan's father is currently the only "normal".. err.. non-UpEast parent. I think there may be a history between him and Serena's mother.

Soap opera? Yup. Teen soap opera? Yup.

Doesn't have the humor aspect of The OC that really was the only reason I kept watching (aside from the hot chicks on the show: Rachel Bilson, Samaire Armstrong, Olivia Wilde, etc...). The OC was sharp and snarky. Right now, Gossip Girl borders One Tree Hill more, but I have faith in Josh Schwartz. No, I don't expect an enyce clone of the oc, but I hope the character of the show comes out soon.

Of course, unless this IS the character, then it'll get played and boring. And, if it is, as I am fearing it'll be... here's what I'm already expecting:

But, as long as Kristen's still singing the narrator's tunes, I'm all ears.

Wow. What an awful string of bad cliches.

Cool Crowd: Heroes and Bones

Heroes: Lizards

Lizards can regenerate their limbs. So can Claire. Our Specials are all resilient. There was a lot physical redemption going on: Claire, Sark, Maya and Alejandro (the yin and yang Wonder Twins). Peter's relearning his story. Nathan sorta saved his mom. The Haitian's been healed. Get ready to rumble?

I'm really enjoying Heroes this season. That's all. Lizards, baby.

Bones: Soccer Mom in the Mini-Van

The mystery wasn't too thought provoking. In fact, the ultimate motive was pretty weak. That said, I still loved the episode and love the show more every time I see it. Zachisms. Hodgisms. Angeisms. Camisms (not so much - but they need someone to drive the shortbus). Boothisms. and of course, Bonesisms.

MY LAUGH OUT LOUD MOMENTS:

- Hodgins losing all sexual-befuddledness over the busty Bomb specialist after she was about to ruin a perfect home for hidden evidence
- Zach's unrelenting preciseness when he defended his use of "ambulatory" over "walking around"

****(Booth and Brennan are sitting on the steps of Lincoln Memorial; Booth seems tipsy.)
Brennan: How much scotch did you drink?
Booth: Oh, just enough. You know, I would have invited you but Reilly, he just...wow, he doesn't like you.
Brennan: I understand.
Booth: I'm sorry, was that rude?
Brennan: Not from someone who's been drinking.
Booth: God, you know, I love this place. I love it, I love this country. You know, I'll tell you something, if I was working law enforcement back in the day when it threw all that tea, alright, in the harbor - I'm good, I'm good. I would have rounded everybody up and we'd still be English.
Brennan: (smiling) You think?

******
Sam: (about Bones) You know Booth, she must be really good in bed, because I can't see any other reason you keep her around here.
Bones: I am, very good, but Booth has no direct knowledge of that fact.

Rush Week (sorta): Moonlight

Get the skewers ready. I finally watched Moonlight last night (when I should've been watching Journeyman, Bones, etc. etc. I'm backlogged on my tivo.)

For the first, say... hmm... half of the episode I thought it was interesting and at times visually pleasing. At least, the investigation into the murdered girl's room had nice dark and light contrast. Maybe I just like vivid color in HD - makes anything bland look lovely. Anyway, aside from the Interview with a Vampire rip off at the beginning which sorta made sense since it was trying to convey that this wasn't your normal vampire story, I thought the introduction of Mick was good. Logan's intro was bland. I also think it's always good to have Marshall from Alias
(Kevin Weisman) in anything.. even if he ends up being a Rings-Trilogy blowhard (in Clerks 2). There was something interesting about the "blood mythology". I'm into vampire stories though.

Anyway, I stopped paying attention midway through so I don't know if there was a solid pay-off for the blood mythology. The two leads and main archetypes is disappointing because it's like any other show and once you wade through the "zeal" of the vampire mythos there really isn't much left. The possible romance with the two leads is sorta discomforting. Marshall/Weisman's not going to get the run he did in Alias. So, that's a waste.

In the end, I'll watch it again a few more weeks to see if it gets better, but I'm not thinking much about this one.
