Netflix Review: The O.C. Season 4

I think there's merit to the fact that this is my first NetFlix review I've ever written. I don't have many friends who have ever watched The O.C. at any point, so I felt the need to express the pure entertainment I've experienced while watching Season 4!

I watched both Seasons 1 and 2 through fun, yet tiresome, DVD marathons. Season 1 was good enough for me to jump to Season 2. Season 2 left the show in limbo for me. I watched Season 3 at the beginning but then dropped it from my saturated TV schedule (and this was even after I got a DVR). I feel like I didn't miss much - because as I've been watching Season 4, I realized that Marissa really didn't matter much to me. Actually, I knew that from the beginning. I was attached to Seth and Summer primarily. But, through Season 4, Disc 3, I am completely pulling for all of our regulars.

Taylor is played wonderfully by Autumn Reeser. She has wonderful vulnerability within her quirk and her self confidence. She definitely paces the show. I've laughed out loud at so many parts of the show - much more than I do in some supposedly funny sitcoms.

I think the show definitely could've had a 5th season without diluting the characters, but Fox does a wonderful job of promoting dead-on-arrival shows instead of protecting or rejuvenating other shows that have a great balance of pop appeal and craftsmanship.

Rent Season 4.

Flixin': Tru Calling S1, D1 and The Good Sheppard

It sucks to have Netflix and not watch the discs you get. That's the hook. The gift is the curse. Bleh.

Tru Calling: Season 1, Disc 1
I watched these episodes in pieces - in and out of sleep - as I was getting and trying to get over being sick. I wanted to try out Tru Calling because there honestly wasn't anything else that I could feel I wanted to sink my teeth into: tv, movie, or documentary. With HDTV and my DVR, watching DVDs has dropped to a very low priority in my time-wasting agenda. And, for whatever reason, it's easier for me to watch tv show episodes, end on end, than it is to watch a movie that's usually 1/2 the time in length. Anyway, I'm wandering.

Tru Calling had a decent ranking on netflix. Netflix raters did a good one for me on Bones. I thought I might as well try. What the hell, right?

It definitely didn't have much worth watching. The premise, as obvious, is very gimmicky. Basically, this is another run-of-the-mill investigation show without the charming qualities of Bones. The characters through 4 episodes were generally undeveloped or emotionally irrelevant. The acting was soso. The best pops for me were seeing actors of current series in their one-episode roles: DL (Heroes), shapeshifter woman (Heroes), and Anders (BSG).

Not recommended. How this lasted even one season and other shows can't get off the ground - bleh. It's not monstrously bad. It's just not good.

The Good Sheppard
I was really piqued about this one for some reason. Spies? Cool. Semi-historical? Cool. Comparisons to Godfather? Cool. Great cast? Cool. But, then, I watched this one afternoon during a sick day and wasn't overwhelmed. Maybe I thought it was too slow - even though I appreciate slow. The "twist" at the end? Not really that impactful. Maybe it's because some parts were hard to HEAR - and I don't think I want to repeatedly rewind to make sure I hear something. Eventually, I didn't care. I just wanted it to end to see how it ended. Not really all that. AND, I can't buy Angelina Jolie as an old-school stay-at-home mother.

Bad batch.
